Who We Are
Holy Grail Publications was founded by author and DIY artist Nick Pretnar with the intent of publishing socially charged content that isn’t sullied by corporate principles and traditional market sensibilities. In the twenty-first century, the publishing hierarchy has been increasingly stratified. New literary voices, even talented ones, are frequently ignored for lacking merit or writing material that is deemed unmarketable. At Holy Grail Publications we believe that quality and quality alone is marketable and worthy of merit.
Literature constructed with the richness of the elements and built upon a solid macro-literary platform will always prevail over formulated drivel churned out by ghost writers and serial novelists. At Holy Grail Publications, we reject the notion of ‘genre’ that only serves to categorize authors by specialties. We are the torch-bearers not for writers but literary artists with a passion for words and a love of the English language. These parameters are boundless. We strive to promote a discourse of independent thought, of philosophical introspect, and of personal growth, by publishing literature that inspires just that. As editors and publishers it is our job to corral wild and passionate men and women of letters and bring them to market.
This is by no means a simple task. We are attempting to redefine literature itself. We ask ourselves what qualifies as literature and then compare it with all the great timeless masterpieces. Of authors, we ask that they listen to our advice as much as they wish, but formulate their creations to their own discretions. At Holy Grail Publications we will rarely suggest an author change character and plot structure or scrap entire chapters or sections. Instead, we work from the ground up, focusing on the author’s use of linguistic tools –– punctuation, syntax, syllabication, meter –– and elements of language –– metaphor, allusion, irony –– assisting him/her in the micromanagement of literature. For it is how one uses language that sets his/her literature apart from all others.
These are lofty ambitions. And living up to them will certainly prove challenging. But we can’t all ignore the mountain. Somebody has to take the high road …
Thank you.
And Godspeed.
